The 1-portion meals are all of the "cook in the pouch" type: simply add boiling water up to the indicated fill line, close the pouch and wait 8 minutes. There's no lengthy simmering, no dirty pots to wash up: just minimum hassle and maximum taste! The 2-portion meals need to be prepared in a pan, but there's no simmering (just add water, bring to the boil, cover and stand for 8 minutes).
Adventure Food products were designed and developed in the Netherlands by adventurer and mountaineer Hans van der Meulen. Hans has taken part in a number of expeditions, including to the North Pole and the Himalaya (Everest, K2, Gasherbrum 2, Shishapangma and Cho Oyu). His experience of using specialist foods on these expeditions drove him to establish Adventure Food, so that he could provide quality lightweight meals for outdoors enthusiasts everywhere.
As Hans says, "I learned the hard way, from first hand experience, about nutritional requirements in such extreme conditions, and I make constant use of this knowledge to make the range the best it can possibly be."
The Expedition Breakfast (a creamy, sweet oat and wheat porridge with hazelnuts, apple pieces and raisins) provides a tasty, hot and filling start for a chilly morning.
The main meals include dishes based on pasta, rice and potato, with vegetarian options available too. The portions are generous and the retail pricing is competitive.
